RHIT Homecoming 2008 - The Horrible Hotel

The Horrible Hotel

Fred had booked our hotel for the three nights we'd need it through Expedia; from the description and price, we'd expected that it would be basic, but decent.

By the time we arrived at the Ramada Limited in Terre Haute, it was almost midnight. The parking lot was nearly full of cars parked in every fashion except centered between the lines in the spaces, the paint was peeling off the buildings, all the fixtures and doors and lighting looked very worn out — in general, this hotel looked very run down.

However, with as late as it was and with homecoming that weekend, we didn't think it was likely that we'd be able to find another hotel room in Terre Haute that night, and Fred had already paid for the room, so we checked in anyway.

As it turned out, the inside of the room didn't look any better than the outside of the hotel.

The chain on the door of the room, which looks like it may have been forced off more than a few times.

The curtain rod was completely disconnected at one end, which obviously caused it to sag, and meant that it was impossible to have the curtain 100% cover the window. This allowed light into the room at night, and it probably wouldn't have been too difficult for anyone walking past the room to see in, either.

The air conditioner, whose face plate is becoming detached.

The shower curtain rod was pulling the wall open.

The overhead bathroom fan vent was completely missing its cover, leaving the spinning blades and motor circuitry completely exposed.

The frame for one of the beds.

The hallway outside our door. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the left side of the floor is decidedly lower than the right side. The ceiling isn't in the best of shape, either. (Photo taken the next morning as we were leaving.)

We put up with it for one night, looking around on the internet before we went to bed for hotels with a room we could book for the remaining two nights of our stay. The next morning, we immediately checked out and cancelled our reservation for the next two days. However, the hotel refused to refund the money for the nights we weren't going to use.

Fred called Expedia, who called the hotel, and Expedia was able to get him his refund. We ended up in a much nicer hotel for the following two nights - the Drury Inn a block away.
