Through the Dark Portal

((16 February 2008))

"But you've managed to determine its presence there with reasonable certainty, correct?" Heacha had asked.

Upon informing his sister that he'd been told from sources he trusted that the fishing book he'd heard of was for sale in an outpost at the eastern end of Zangarmarsh, she used entirely too many words to tell him that he should go get it, and perhaps see if he could find out if anybody needed something delivered there so his trip wouldn't be at a loss.

The only problem was that Zangarmarsh was on entirely different world.

He didn't entirely trust portals. Even the basic theories behind how they worked were well outside of any of his realm of knowledge; they may as well have been alien to him for as little as he understood them. He'd only managed to make passing through the smaller portals created by skilled magicians tolerable through repetition; nothing had yet gone wrong on the many times he'd taken one. The portal in front of him was considerably more ominous than the ones he'd gradually become used to, and simply being in its presence was enough to make him want to shiver.

And yet he knew that crossing through here was something he needed to do. His delivery business could only improve with new, remote locations to which he could deliver people's prized possessions. If he didn't extend his services to Outland, somebody else would be more than willing to step in and earn the money that he could have.

Besides, how could he ever claim to be a proper fisherman if he wasn't able to get his hands on the paramount fishing guide known? Surely, he could pay someone to get it for him, but it didn't sit well with him to hire someone else to perform his livelihood for him.

Despite his nervousness, he was ready.

Calsh has now extended his courier service to Outland, and is currently familiarizing himself with this new world in order to better understand the risks he will face in his deliveries.
